COP28 - All Communities Must Have Acces To Renewable Energy
Tishiko King (Kulkalaig), a member of the First Nations group, has emphasized the urgent need for Australia to invest in measures aimed at adapting to climate change. It is also important to ensure that all communities have access to renewable energy. This is essential to safeguard our country and its people, and to prioritize the role of Indigenous peoples in finding solutions to the climate crisis.

COP28 Indigenous Peoples Need Real, Tangible Outcomes - Amba-Rose
Indigenous leaders are taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, act as guardians of ecosystems, manage pollution, and protect the natural environment.
Cultural Survival attended COP28 in Dubai, from 30 November to 12 December 2023, and spoke to some of the delegates who attended.

UN Special Rapporteur Vicky Tauli Corpuz discusses the international trade deal known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership which is being negotiated by Canada,The United States, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Singapore, Brunei, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand. She discusses why governments are pushing for it, and its implications for Indigenous Peoples.
UNSR: Indigenous Peoples Were Not Consulted on the TPP

The Botswana Khwedom Council On Revitalizing Indigenous Languages
The United Nations General Assembly (Resolution A/RES/74/135) proclaimed the period between 2022 and 2032 as the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022-2032), to draw global attention on the critical situation of many indigenous languages and to mobilize stakeholders and resources for their preservation, revitalization and promotion.
Cultural Survival partnered with the Botswana Khwedom Council to revitalize the Tsiga language, which is disappearing. Keikabile Mogodu tells us more.

The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) is a high-level advisory body to the Economic and Social Council.
The twenty-first session of the Permanent Forum is taking place from April 25th to May 6th, 2022, at UN Headquarters, New York.
In this interview, Cultural Survival's Director of Programs Avexnim Cojti (Maya Ki’che) speaks to Diphetogo Anita Lekgowa (San) from the Indigenous Peoples of Africa Coordinating Committee (IPACC) about Indigenous language revitalization efforts in Africa.
COP28 Our Birds, Plants And Foods Are Disappearing - The San Of Botswana
One of the top priorities at COP28 is to finalize the inaugural Global Stocktake (GST), which serves as the primary means of evaluating advancements towards the objectives established in the Paris Agreement. The GST presents nations with a chance to evaluate their current climate initiatives and determine areas where additional action is necessary.

New Radio Station In Kenya Will Help To Preserve Language And Culture
A new community radio station is set to launch in Kenya with the help of a grant from Cultural Survival’s Indigenous Community Media Fund as well as funding from Cultural Survival’s partner WACC. The radio station will be broadcast in the Rendille language and will focus on preserving the community’s language and culture as well as keeping the local people in Laisamis Sub-County, which is home to five different Indigenous Tribes, well-informed about issues that affect them.

Using Technology For Multlingual Learning - The Yiaku Develop An App
The Yiaku people of Kenya have been living in the Makugodo Forest for a long time as hunter-gatherers.
In the past decade, the Kenyan government has asked them to officially manage the forest.
The forest has been thriving under their care.
What is not thriving, however, is the language of the Yiaku people
On the eve of International Mother Tongue Day 2022, we spoke to Moffat Kihoro who will tell us about an app that will help to revitalize the Yiaku language.
