The 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference, commonly referred to as COP30, is taking place from November 10 to November 21, 2025, in Belém, Brazil. The city is often referred to as the "gateway" to the Amazon Rainforest. As usual, the annual meeting of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), this global event, has drawn a vast and diverse attendance. In this interview, we hear from Aluki Kotierk, an Inuk leader from Iqaluit, Nunavut, who is also the Chair of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII).

COP30 is a major global meeting that has gathered government representatives from 198 countries, alongside UN bodies, civil society, academia, industry, and a significant delegation of Indigenous Peoples, women, and youth. Notably, this year has the largest-ever participation of Indigenous Peoples in the conference series, with over 3,000 Indigenous delegates registered. Cultural Survival is engaging with Indigenous leaders and their representatives to understand their goals for COP30.

World Refugee Day is celebrated each year on June 20th. This year, the commemoration emphasizes the right to seek safety.

A year ago, UN human rights experts expressed grave concerns about the continuous encroachment on traditional Maasai lands and housing, accompanied by a lack of transparency in, and consultation with the Maasai Indigenous Peoples, during decision-making and planning.

WHO estimates that more than 13 million deaths around the world each year are due to avoidable environmental causes. This includes the climate crisis which is the single biggest health threat facing humanity. The climate crisis is also a health crisis.
In this program, we hear from Nailejileji Tipap who will tell us about the health of the Maasai people of Tanzania.

Information and communications technologies have the potential to provide new solutions to development challenges, particularly in the context of globalization, and can foster economic growth, competitiveness, access to information and knowledge, poverty eradication, and social inclusion that will help to expedite the integration of all countries, especially developing countries, in particular the least developed countries, into the global economy. In this podcast, we find out how Indigenous Peoples fit into this picture.

Some groups in the Maasai community rely on livestock as their sole source of income, leaving them vulnerable. Some of the challenges they face include scarcity of resources, climate change, and livestock diseases. In this Maa language interview, Kipaya Ole Mapi, a pastoralist from Monduli District, tells us about the plight of his people.
