The International Indigenous Peoples Forum on Climate Change, the official caucus for Indigenous Peoples participating in the UNFCCC processes, which held its preparatory meeting on 5th and 6th November prior to UNFCCC COP27 and had a discussion on a range of issues relating to climate change to come into agreement specifically on what Indigenous Peoples will be negotiating for, in specific UNFCCC processes.

COP27, Retos de los Pueblos Indígenas para mitigar los efectos del cambio climático

La Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático de 2022, mas conocida como COP 27, se esta llevando a cabo del 6 al 18 de noviembre en Egipto.

En esta conferencia se discute sobre las urgentes acciones frente al cambio climático, ya que el mundo vive una de las mayores crisis energética sin precedentes. Cultural Survival reitera la importancia del acceso de los Pueblos Indígenas a la misma participación con derecho a voz y voto en las mesas de negociación que los estados nación en la COP27.

COP 15 - Nataly Domico y la participación de los jóvenes en la preservación de la biodiversidad

La Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre Diversidad Biológica (COP 15) se llevó a cabo en Montreal, Canadá, del 7 al 19 de diciembre de 2022. Durante este evento se reunieron delegaciones de 188 gobiernos, así como integrantes de distintas organizaciones, con el fin de abordar temas como la pérdida de biodiversidad, la restauración de los ecosistemas y la protección de los derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas.

En este capítulo del programa “La voz de nuestras mujeres”, producido por el Movimiento de la Mujer Nasa Hilando Pensamiento, en Colombia, se reflexiona sobre la importancia del tul o la huerta para los Pueblos Indígenas. En el tul se trabaja en familia para asegurar alimentos nutritivos y saludables, por esta razón, es fundamental en la vida de nuestros pueblos.  

We Are One - Indigenous Peoples And Conservation

Indigenous Peoples play a crucial role in the conservation of the environment and ecosystems, as their survival very much depends on water, land, and natural resources. Indigenous Peoples are often called the custodians or stewards of the Earth. It is estimated that 25 percent of the earth's land surface is occupied, owned, and managed by Indigenous Peoples. This is no coincidence as Indigenous cultures are rooted in relationships with lands and territories.

COP 28 - Gabriel Cuatín Cuesta

La Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático (COP 28) se está llevando a cabo en Dubai del 30 de noviembre al 12 de diciembre del 2023. Se trata de una reunión internacional para debatir sobre el tema del cambio climático, plantear propuestas, llegar a acuerdos y buscar soluciones que ayuden a mitigarlo. En ella participan líderes mundiales, representantes y delegaciones de distintos gobiernos, organizaciones ambientalistas e integrantes de Pueblos Indígenas. Cultural Survival está presente en la COP28 y ha logrado platicar con algunos de los delegados.

COP28 - Indigenous Peoples With Disabilities Must Also Be Heard

Pratima Gurung, is the Secretary General of the Indigenous Person with Disabilities Global Network (IPWDGN) and National Indigenous Disabled Women Association Nepal (NIDWAN). She believes that indigenous people with disabilities are affected disproportionately by climate change, but their voices are not being heard in the important negotiations that will shape our future. She thinks that there should be a formal recognition of their issues and dedicated constituencies within these discussions.

COP28 - Nothing About Us Without Us - Tunga Rai

Tunga Rai emphasizes the importance of Indigenous voices being included in discussions that concern their communities. The call for inclusion is echoed through the phrase "Nothing about us without us".  True progress can only be made when Indigenous voices are present at the table.

¿Qué son los minerales de transición? Spot 1 en inga

Los combustibles fósiles y otras fuentes de energía convencionales liberan muchos gases de efecto invernadero que perjudican al medio ambiente. Por esta razón, a nivel mundial se habla de la necesidad de una transición hacia el uso de fuentes de energías más limpias y el desarrollo de tecnologías como los sistemas de almacenamiento en baterías. No obstante, para la creación de dichas baterías son necesarios los llamados “minerales de transición”, cuya extracción aumenta el peligro de nuevos desplazamientos y despojo de territorios de los Pueblos Indígenas.
