The Sámi have a long tradition of salmon fishing. Recently, a high court in Finland ruled in favor of salmon fishing as part of Sámi culture. Aslat Holmberg from the Sámi Council tells us about the significance of the ruling.

Recently, in the area where Sami people live which includes part of Sweden, construction of huge turbines has been underway. 
In this podcast, we speak to Maja Kristine Jåma, who tells us how these new sources of energy have been impacting her people.

The UAE has set forth three extra priorities for COP28, which include accelerating the energy transition to reduce emissions before 2030, revamping climate finance by fulfilling past commitments and establishing a new finance agreement, and prioritizing the well-being of nature, individuals, and livelihoods in climate action. 
Cultural Survival attended COP28 in Dubai, from 30 November to 12 December 2023, and spoke to some of the delegates who attended.

Aucune exploitation ne peut être faite sur nos terres sans appliquer au préalable l’article trente-deux de la Déclaration des Nations Unies sur les droits des peuples autochtones. Ce droit affirme que les états doivent obtenir le consentement préalable, libre et éclairé des peuples autochtones avant que tout projet de développement, pouvant altérer les terres et les ressources des peuples autochtones, ne soit approuvé; notamment en ce qui concerne la mise en valeur, l’utilisation ou l’exploitation des ressources minérales, hydriques ou autres.

Les États devraient travailler avec les communautés autochtones pour mettre en œuvre des initiatives sur le changement climatique qui protègent la terre et les ressources des peuples autochtones, à travers une approche basée sur l'écosystème et les garanties exécutoires.
