La Organización Mundial de la Salud ha señalado que el coronavirus ha causado enfermedades que van desde el resfriado común hasta enfermedades más graves, en muchos casos ha causado hasta la muerte.

Desde el comienzo de la pandemia de COVID-19, en las redes sociales comenzó a circular una gran cantidad de información sobre esta enfermedad, su origen, sus síntomas, la forma de combatirla, las secuelas que deja a quienes se han contagiado, el proceso de vacunación para hacer frente a la misma y otros temas relacionados con esta situación que se vive a nivel mundial.

According to the World Health Organization, coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause diseases ranging from the common cold to more serious diseases. Covid -19 is a type of coronavirus that now affects more than 162 countries out of 195.

El coronavirus es la pandemia que sigue causando enfermedades de las vías respiratorias, en algunos casos puede ser controlado pero en otros a causado hasta la muerte. El sitio web de rtve señala que actualmente existen más de 29,9 millones de casos y más de 942.000 muertos en todo el mundo.

UNESCO calls on radio stations to celebrate World Radio Day's 10th anniversary and the more than 110 years of radio. Cultural Survival's Indigenous Rights Radio supported the Khwe people from the Okavango region in starting Khwedam Radio – a radio station that will assist the Khwe and !Xun speaking San Peoples  to be able to communicate better with each other in remote regions of Namibia.

Limited access to basic health services remains a big problem for Indigenous communities across all continents. Indigenous populations in many countries have experienced poorer health outcomes compared to non-Indigenous populations. Mainstream health services have not adequately met the health needs of Indigenous Peoples in both rural and urban settings.

After months of clinical trials by many companies in different countries, several vaccines, which are 94-95% effective, have finally been approved and are now making their way to hospitals, clinics and doctors rooms. Successful trials of the vaccines have taken place with medical professionals and the elderly. Vaccines against COVID-19 will be available to us soon.

Covid-19 is still a grave reality, now with a new strain of the virus spreading across the world. When the pandemic first began, we did not expect it to last this long, and no one expected that it would spread so widely and have such a disastrous impact. As we move into 2021, it continues to be crucial to maintain social distance, avoid large groups of people, wash or sanitize our hands and wear masks consistently to stop the spread of the virus.

El coronavirus ha causado enfermedades que van desde el resfriado común hasta enfermedades más graves y en muchos casos ha causado hasta la muerte. El sitio web de rtve señala que actualmente existen más de 4,3 millones de casos y más de 297.000 muertos en todo el mundo.

¿Por qué es importante conservar y revitalizar las lenguas Indígenas? ¿Y por qué es importante escribir en nuestras lenguas? En este programa producido por Cultural Survival invitamos a tres poetas Indígenas de México a reflexionar sobre estos temas. Ellos son: Juana Karen Peñate Montejo, poeta Ch’ol, Hubert Matiúwàa, poeta Me’phaa y Nadia López García, poeta Ñuu Savi. 

La pandemia de COVID-19 ha generado más dificultades para el ejercicio del derecho a la participación política de las mujeres. En las comunidades y pueblos Indígenas, las mujeres enfrentaron, entre otras cosas, un aumento en las jornadas de cuidados hacia otras personas. En lugares como Ayutla de los Libres, Guerrero, México, este incremento de responsabilidades en el cuidado ocasionó que durante el tiempo de pandemia pocas mujeres ocuparan espacios de representación pública. 

El acceso limitado a los servicios básicos de salud sigue siendo un reto de gran escala para las comunidades Indígenas de todos los continentes, y la emergencia sanitaria por Covid-19 ha evidenciado más esta precaria situación. Sin embargo, a lo largo de la historia los Pueblos Indígenas hemos tomado el control para garantizar la salud  y la vida en nuestros territorios.
