Thelma Cabrera, Mujer Indígena Aspirante a la Presidencia de Guatemala
Thelma Cabrera Pérez es una mujer indígena, Maya Mam, originaria del departamento de Retalhuleu del país de Guatemala, descendiente de una familia campesina, defensora de derechos humanos y de pueblos Indígenas desde hace más de 25 años.
Thelma en las elecciones generales de Guatemala 2019, aspira a la presidencia, por el El Movimiento para la Liberación de los Pueblos MLP.

El Agua es un vital liquido que ha sido cuidado por pueblos indígenas desde hace miles de años, Sin embargo la contaminación de los ríos causado mayormente por la existencia de mega proyectos ha llevado a que muchas familias Indígenas estén enfermando.
Ante esto radio comunitaria Balam Sterio de Guatemala ha abordado este tema realizando producciones cortas sobre recomendaciones para el consumo seguro de agua como: hervir el agua antes de consumirla, lavar las manos con agua y jabón para evitar enfermedades.

COVID-19 sigue siendo una situación de gravedad, más ahora con nuevas variaciones del virus que se extiende por todo el mundo. La segunda ola del virus está afectando a muchos países principalmente en comunidades Indígenas donde ahora ya no solo los niños y ancianos son vulnerables, las nuevas variaciones de Covid19 están afectando a todos en general.

Ha pasado más de un año y los efectos por covid-19 se siguen sintiendo mucho más debido a la segunda ola y sus variaciones, según la revista RTVE señala que a la fecha se han registrado 3,348,843 muertes en el mundo. Ante esta situación alarmante se ha acelerado algunas respuesta para evitar que más personas se sigan contagiando, entre ellas está la aplicación de vacunas contra covid-19, el cual en muchos países ya se ha aplicado a personal médico, servidores públicos y personas de la tercera edad.

Esta crisis sanitaria ha dejado en evidencia el acceso limitado a los servicios básicos de salud el cual sigue siendo un reto de gran escala para las comunidades Indígenas de todos los continentes y la emergencia sanitaria por Covid-19 ha dejado más en evidencia esta precaria situación.
