La Organización Mundial de la Salud ha señalado que el Coronavirus ha afectado a más de 170 países. Este virus causa enfermedades que van desde el resfriado común hasta enfermedades más graves.

En respuesta a esta emergencia mundial, los pueblos Indígenas se han organizado y creado material radiofónico en sus propios idiomas ejerciendo así el derecho a estar informados. Tal es el caso de la Organización Indígena de Colombia ONIC quien ha trabajado una serie especial en idioma Inga sobre prevención y cuidado ante esta crisis sanitaria por coronavirus.

While countries all over the world are on lockdown, and panic is the order of the day, this is a time when Indigenous Peoples around the world are encouraged to stay calm, and be strong, in the face of severe adversity.
What is most important to note, is that our elderly are the most vulnerable. We need to take extra precaution to save the lives of the ones who are dear to us, and the ones who have shown us the way to go, who have guided our feet on the path that we all walk.

While we adhere to the precautionary measures that prevent the spread of the coronavirus, it is important to strengthen the defenses in our body through responsible and healthy nourishment. Having a healthy immune system means that our bodies can fight the virus.

This is a public service announcement about the coronavirus or Covid-19 disease outbreak.
The Covid-19 Pandemic is upon us, and we all need to adhere to all the hygiene protocols.
While it is important to ensure the well-being of our elders in the time of this global pandemic, let us take care of our children too. If this is new for us, imagine the psychological impact it has on our young ones. Take the time to explain it to them, first hand, as opposed to what they see and hear on social media, television and radio.

Covid-19 is still a grave reality, now with a new strain of the virus spreading across the world. When the pandemic first began, we did not expect it to last this long, and no one expected that it would spread so widely and have such a disastrous impact. As we move into 2021, it continues to be crucial to maintain social distance, avoid large groups of people, wash or sanitize our hands and wear masks consistently to stop the spread of the virus.

After months of clinical trials by many companies in different countries, several vaccines, which are 94-95% effective, have finally been approved and are now making their way to hospitals, clinics and doctors rooms. Successful trials of the vaccines have taken place with medical professionals and the elderly. Vaccines against COVID-19 will be available to us soon.

Limited access to basic health services remains a big problem for Indigenous communities across all continents. Indigenous populations in many countries have experienced poorer health outcomes compared to non-Indigenous populations. Mainstream health services have not adequately met the health needs of Indigenous Peoples in both rural and urban settings.

With colonization and migration comes intercultural exchanges. Religions are often brought from one area to another, and with this, new traditions and ways of worship. Radio producer Mathias Kowayu Tooko explores the impact of Christianity on his people.

Some groups in the Maasai community rely on livestock as their sole source of income, leaving them vulnerable. Some of the challenges they face include scarcity of resources, climate change, and livestock diseases. In this Maa language interview, Kipaya Ole Mapi, a pastoralist from Monduli District, tells us about the plight of his people.

COVID-19 sigue siendo una situación de gravedad, más ahora con nuevas variaciones del virus que se extiende por todo el mundo. La segunda ola del virus está afectando a muchos países principalmente en comunidades Indígenas donde ahora ya no solo los niños y ancianos son vulnerables, las nuevas variaciones de Covid19 están afectando a todos en general.

Ha pasado más de un año y los efectos por covid-19 se siguen sintiendo mucho más debido a la segunda ola y sus variaciones, según la revista RTVE señala que a la fecha se han registrado 3,348,843 muertes en el mundo. Ante esta situación alarmante se ha acelerado algunas respuesta para evitar que más personas se sigan contagiando, entre ellas está la aplicación de vacunas contra covid-19, el cual en muchos países ya se ha aplicado a personal médico, servidores públicos y personas de la tercera edad.

Después de más de un año Covid-19 ha dejado más de 3,382,561 muertes en el mundo según el sistema de monitoreo de Covid-19 de la Universidad de Medicina John Hopkins. Esta crisis sanitaria ha dejado en evidencia el acceso limitado a los servicios básicos de salud el cual sigue siendo un reto de gran escala para las comunidades Indígenas de todos los continentes y la emergencia sanitaria por Covid-19 ha dejado más en evidencia esta precaria situación.
