While countries all over the world are on lockdown, and panic is the order of the day, this is a time when Indigenous Peoples around the world are encouraged to stay calm, and be strong, in the face of severe adversity.
What is most important to note, is that our elderly are the most vulnerable. We need to take extra precaution to save the lives of the ones who are dear to us, and the ones who have shown us the way to go, who have guided our feet on the path that we all walk.

The Covid-19 Pandemic is upon us, and we all need to adhere to all the hygiene protocols.
While it is important to ensure the well-being of our elders in the time of this global pandemic, let us take care of our children too. If this is new for us, imagine the psychological impact it has on our young ones. Take the time to explain it to them, first hand, as opposed to what they see and hear on social media, television and radio.

While we adhere to the precautionary measures that prevent the spread of the coronavirus, it is important to strengthen the defenses in our body through responsible and healthy nourishment. Having a healthy immune system means that our bodies can fight the virus.
Within the community there are a great variety of foods that grow and are produced that can cover the needs of our families and of those elders who live alone.

Fossil fuels and other conventional energy sources release many greenhouse gases that harm the environment. For this reason, there is global talk of the need for a transition towards the use of cleaner energy sources and the development of technologies such as battery storage systems, and other cleaner sources of energy. However, for the creation of these energy sources, so-called “transition minerals” are necessary, the extraction of which increases the danger of new displacements and the dispossession of territories from Indigenous Peoples.

La Declaración de las Naciones Unidas sobre los Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas fue adoptada en Nueva York el 13 de septiembre de 2007. La Declaración contiene los derechos colectivos e individuales de los Pueblos Indígenas, especialmente sus derechos a sus tierras, bienes, recursos vitales, territorios y recursos, a su cultura, identidad y lengua, al empleo, la salud, la educación y a determinar libremente su condición política y su desarrollo económico.

La Pandemia por covid-19 sigue siendo un tema que ha puesto en evidencia la precariedad en los servicios básicos para la humanidad Indígena, un ejemplo es la falta acceso y la baja calidad del agua que consumen. Este vital líquido ha sido indispensable en este tiempo de pandemia mayormente para la preparación de medicinas tradicionales y usos del hogar durante el tiempo de confinamiento.

La Conferencia Mundial sobre los Pueblos Indígenas fue una reunión de la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas en la que las preocupaciones e intereses de los pueblos indígenas fueron discutidos, junto con las mejores prácticas sobre la manera de aplicar la Declaración de la Naciones Unidas sobre los Pueblos Indígenas.

El documento final de la Conferencia Mundial sobre los Pueblos Indígenas analiza los mecanismos de las Naciones Unidas que ya existen para implementar la Declaración de las Naciones Unidas sobre los Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas, y discute maneras en que los pueden ser mejorados.

El propósito del documento final de la conferencia mundial sobre los Pueblos Indígenas es consolidar el progreso que ya ha sido realizado en la implementación de la Declaración de las Naciones Unidas sobre los Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas, modificar medidas existentes, y crear compromisos nuevos.
