Governments cannot store dangerous materials on Indigenous Peoples’ lands without their Free, Prior and Informed Consent.

La igualdad de género no solo es un derecho humano fundamental, sino que es uno de los fundamentos esenciales para construir un mundo pacífico, próspero y sostenible. Este derecho está específicamente estipulado dentro de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible u ODS establecido por Naciones Unida

States should obtain Free, Prior and Informed Consent before approving any development project that will affect the lands and resources of Indigenous Peoples.

"Peace, justice and strong institutions: the role of indigenous peoples in implementing Sustainable Development Goal 16". That is the theme for the 20th session of the United Nations Permanent Forum of Indigenous Issues. The Forum was established on 28 July 2000 by resolution 2000/22, with the mandate to deal with Indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health, and human rights. Cultural Survival spoke to Kenneth Deer (Mohawk) about the history and work of the Permanent Forum.

The UN Declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples along with other international instruments, recognises the right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent as a right of Indigenous Peoples.

En el Día mundial de la libertad de prensa, reconocemos que los medios y formas propias de comunicación comunitaria son una forma ancestral de conexión que se sigue practicando en muchas comunidades del mundo. Jóvenes y adultos hacen uso de las radios y prensa comunitaria al igual que otros medios sociales, con el fin de llevar información relevante que los involucre. Sin embargo en muchos países los Gobiernos no reconocen estos medios y labor de los comunicadores Indígenas sino más bien ejercen criminalización y persecución sobre ellos.

El Foro Permanente para las Cuestiones Indígenas de las Naciones Unidas, es un espacio creado para examinar las cuestiones Indígenas relacionadas al desarrollo económico y social, la cultura, la educación, la salud, el medio ambiente y los derechos humanos. Este foro se celebra cada año en New York, donde se reúnen líderes Indígenas, jefes de estados, gobiernos  y sociedad civil con el fin de entablar diálogos que los orienten a una correcta aplicación de sus derechos.

Governments are obligated to comply with the right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent that belongs to all Indigenous Peoples.

For many African communities, lands and natural resources are their greatest and most reliable service providers, sustaining life, dignity and happiness. Their stewardship of the ecosystems on which they depend is also recognized as one of the most important contributions to nature conservation, with the lands and waters of indigenous peoples and local communities supporting approximately 80% of the world’s biodiversity.

Después de más de un año Covid-19 ha dejado más de 3,382,561 muertes en el mundo según el sistema de monitoreo de Covid-19 de la Universidad de Medicina John Hopkins. Human trafficking is one of the most difficult issues to address in Nepal, affecting and exploiting thousands of women, adolescent girls, and children. Indigenous women and girls are disproportionately affected by human trafficking and represent almost 70 percent of the cases. Indigenous women and girls make up the majority of the people trafficked and exploited. Following the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, economic opportunities have been severely impacted and the numbers of missing women and girls including children have risen sharply.

It is important to have all the information about the potential impacts of development projects on the environment, the community and the people. The information should be available in a way in which everyone can understand, and in the native language of the people it will affect.
