Justice In The Transition To The Green Economy - Galina Angarova At UNPFII

We're witnessing the acceleration of the transition to a green, low carbon, and clean economy and the increase in demand for transition minerals such as nickel, lithium, cobalt, and copper. This skyrocketing demand is driving a wave of investment into new, expanded mining projects. These projects are promoted as "green" because they aim to supply minerals used for renewable energy technologies and electric vehicles.

The  Just Transition: Indigenous Peoples’ Perspectives, Knowledge and Lived Experiences Summit took place in Geneva Switzerland from October 8th to October 10th, and Indigenous actvists from around the world were present.

Victoria Tauli - Corpuz On Funding Climate Change And The Transition Into The Green Economy

For nearly three decades the UN has been bringing together almost every country on earth for global climate summits – called COPs – which stands for ‘Conference of the Parties’. In that time climate change has gone from being a fringe issue to a global priority. In November 2021, the 26th summit is being held – giving it the name COP26. With the UK as President, COP26 takes place in Glasgow.
Cultural Survival's Avexnim Cojti attended the summit and got a chance to speak to the former Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Victoria Tauli-Corpuz (Igorot).

UNDRIP Article 24: Right to Traditional Medicines

Article 24 of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples states:
1. Indigenous peoples have the right to their traditional medicines and to maintain their health practices, including the conservation of their vital medicinal plants, animals and minerals. Indigenous individuals also have the right to access, without any discrimination, to all social and health services.
