The Sámi have a long tradition of Salmon fishing. Recently, a high court in Finland ruled in favor of Salmon fishing as part of Sámi culture.

Es necesario que las comunidades indígenas eligen líderes que estén comprometidos con la lucha de los pueblos y no con los intereses del gobierno.

El Artículo 10 de la Declaración de las Naciones Unidas sobre los Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas afirma que no se puede desplazar a la fuerza a las comunidades indígenas de sus territorios.

La pandemia de Covid-19 ha afectado de diferentes formas la vida en los pueblos y comunidades Indígenas. Se han vivido afectaciones en la salud, en la economía, en la alimentación, en la educación, entre otras áreas. Además, se han profundizado algunas problemáticas, entre ellas pobreza, marginación, desempleo y discriminación. 

Los Estados deben obtener el consentimiento libre, previo e informado de los pueblos indígenas antes de aplicar medidas legislativas o administrativas que los puedan afectar.

El 12 de junio se conmemora el Día Mundial contra el Trabajo Infantil. De acuerdo con la Organización Internacional del Trabajo, el trabajo infantil es todo tipo de actividad laboral que "priva a los niños de su niñez, su potencial y su dignidad, y que es perjudicial para su desarrollo físico y psicológico". 

Los gobiernos no pueden almacenar materiales peligrosos en las tierras de los pueblos indígenas sin su consentimiento libre, previo e informado.

El Estado debe obtener el consentimiento libre, previo e informado antes de aprobar cualquier proyecto de desarrollo que afecte las tierras y recursos de los pueblos indígenas.

Many Indigenous children were once cared for by their families and communities according to their cultural practices, laws, and traditions. It was the parents' responsibility to raise the children since children were seen as gifts from the creator. Families were closely involved in raising the child.

In order to ensure that the right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent is complied with, there should be community meetings which make people aware of what is happening and could happen in their area. In addition to this, projects must be supervised in order to ensure that decisions made in the community meetings, are implemented during the development project.

De acuerdo con la ONU, “las actitudes homofóbicas y transfóbicas profundamente arraigadas, a menudo combinadas con una falta de protección jurídica adecuada contra la discriminación por motivos de orientación sexual e identidad de género”, exponen a muchas personas de la comunidad LGBTQ a violaciones de sus derechos humanos. Muchas sufren discriminación en el trabajo, en las escuelas y en otros espacios públicos; a veces son maltratadas incluso por sus propias familias, o son víctimas de agresiones físicas y sexuales. 

En la selva y sierra de Chiapas, México, el fenómeno de la migración se vive en distintos niveles: en un primer nivel podemos hablar de aquellos migrantes Indígenas que salen de su comunidad en busca de trabajo temporal y se emplean en zonas turísticas cercanas, en el ramo de la construcción y en campos agrícolas; en un segundo nivel, y más preocupante, podemos hablar de aquellos migrantes que abandona su comunidad y que salen, incluso, con toda su familia para establecerse en algún centro urbano, creyendo  que ahí se solucionarán sus problemas económicos. 

El gobierno está obligado a cumplir con el derecho al Consentimiento Libre, Previo e Informado que corresponde a los pueblos indígenas.

Los Derechos Humanos son normas que reconocen y protegen la dignidad de todos los seres humanos desde que nacen, sin distinción alguna de nacionalidad, origen étnico, religión, lengua o cualquier otra condición. Todos tenemos los mismos derechos y éstos van desde los esenciales, como el derecho a la vida, hasta otros que aseguran una existencia digna, como el derecho a la alimentación, a la educación, al trabajo, a la salud y a la participación política.
