El derecho al consentimiento libre previo e informado claramente dice que el gobierno no deberá actuar para hacer que las personas cambien su forma de organizarse, pensar, actuar y tomar decisiones. Sin embargo, el gobierno ha formado una cadena de mala información para mal informar a los ciudadanos para garantizar que los mega proyectos se cumplan.

Para asegurar que se cumpla con el derecho al consentimiento libre previo e informado se pueden realizar sesiones comunitarias para estar enterados en todo lo que sucede o pueda suceder en el pueblo. Adjunto, se tiene que mantener la supervisión de los proyectos para asegurar que las cosas se realicen como se decidió dentro de las sesiones.

Para que el derecho se aplique correctamente es importante saber que este derecho debe ser aplicado a todos los pueblos indígenas, se deben respetar las formas propias de comunicación y toma de decisión de cada pueblo, y se deben realizar sesiones con los representantes del gobierno, las empresas, y de los pueblos indígenas para llegar a un acuerdo que beneficie al pueblo.

El Día Internacional de los Pueblos Indígenas se conmemora el 9 de agosto de cada año con el fin de dar a conocer las necesidades de estos grupos de población. De acuerdo con información de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas, en el mundo existen alrededor de 476 millones de personas de algún pueblo o comunidad Indígena, viviendo a lo largo de 90 países, lo que representa un poco más del 5% de la población mundial y, sin embargo, se encuentran entre las poblaciones más desfavorecidas y vulnerables.

Para que este derecho sea aplicado de manera justa, se debe de respetar lo siguiente: 1. Desde el inicio de un proyecto se debe consultar a los pueblos indígenas; 2. Se debe otorgar el tiempo necesario para que los pueblos indígenas reciban todo la información sobre los proyectos y sus impactos; 3. Se debe dar información en las formas tradicionales de cada pueblo; 4. Se debe evitar cualquier tipo de influencia en opiniones hacia los pobladores; 5. Se debe documentar cualquier decisión en forma detallada.

For the right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent to be correctly applied, it is important to know that this right is applicable to all Indigenous Peoples. It must be adhered to with respect for indigenous communities’ own methods of communication and each person’s opinion must be heard. Furthermore, it means that there should be meetings with representatives of the government, companies, and Indigenous Peoples in order to arrive at an agreement that benefits the community.

The Lakota LockUp Project advocates for American Indians affected by the justice system, to support innovative approaches for cultural and historical trauma survival, rebuilding lives, economic justice, traditional family services, substance and alcohol abuse treatment, and equal access to education, thus strengthening communities.

The Alta outcome document sets out key issues for Indigenous Peoples and solutions on topics including the rights to land, air, water, and livelihoods. 

El Día Internacional de la Paz se celebra el 21 de septiembre de cada año con el fin de “conmemorar y fortalecer los ideales de paz a través de la observación de 24 horas de no violencia y alto al fuego”. Sin embargo, de acuerdo con la Organización de las Naciones Unidas, “lograr la paz verdadera conlleva mucho más que dejar las armas, requiere la construcción de sociedades en las que todos sus miembros puedan desarrollarse”, así como “la creación de un mundo en el que todas las personas sean tratadas con igualdad, independientemente de su raza”.
