World Tourism Day is commemorated each year on 27 September in order to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value. This year, tourism has been among the hardest hit of all sectors by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the theme of the 2020 edition of international day is "Tourism and Rural Development." Undoubtedly, the tourism is one of the largest industries in the world. One out of every 10 jobs in the whole world is in the tourism industry and 30 percent of the world revenue comes from tourism.

The Wampanoag Peoples have lived in the region of what is now southeastern Massachusetts for more than 12,000 years. The year 2020 represents 400 years since colonizers voyaged on the Mayflower and founded Plymouth Colony as settlers on Native land. This anniversary is a time of reckoning with that history of violence, dispossession, removal. The story of Plymouth Colony cannot be told without the perspectives of Indigenous Peoples who were here as that ship arrived and who still remain.

Los recursos minerales han sido codiciados desde la invasión española hasta la fecha, donde los pueblos Indígenas han sido los más afectados. Esto debido al despojo y desalojo de sus tierras, territorios y recursos naturales.

Los empresarios hoy en día entran a los territorios con promesas de desarrollo para las comunidades, cuando ha quedado claro que el extractivismo no es sinónimo de desarrollo.

El día de los santos o día de muertos es una fecha en que en varias regiones principalmente en México esperan la visita de sus seres queridos que ya han fallecido.

Creen fielmente que en las fechas 31 de octubre, 1 o 2 de noviembre dependiendo de la cultura, les permiten entrar al mundo de los vivos y visitar los altares preparados para ellos. Estos altares son decorados con fotografías de los difuntos, flores, frutas, verduras y alimentos favoritos de cada una de las personas en los retratos.

Desde la llegada de los españoles se ha desvalorizado y criminalizado la espiritualidad maya, trayendo una nueva religión, el cristianismo católico. Según los documentos de la época, se relataba al rey de España que las prácticas de los encontrados en este territorio eran satánicas y demoníacas.

Para muchos Indígenas principalmente jóvenes estudiantes, el tema de migración interna, es decir migrar de su comunidad hacia la ciudad de su país, los ha llevado a experimentar y reconstruir las narrativas en torno a lo que significa ser nativo en la urbe, donde deben enfrentarse a ser señalados y llamados "Indios" por la población mestiza y blanca.

In October 2020, a group of people representing different Khoi and San Tribes gathered at the foot of Table Mountain in South Africa. There they have created a cultural space where they will stay for an indefinite period of time in an effort to reclaim the mountain. With the temporary huts providing a little shelter, and fire providing a little warmth, they are making it known that the mountain and the area surrounding it had once belonged to their ancestors. Bradley van Sitters is among the folks camped out at the foot of the mountain.

Humanity NPC travelled to the home of Rooibos Tea in Wuperthal, South Africa, to talk to the Indigenous people there about the origins of the tea, and how it had been in their families for generations. This podcast also discusses the benefit sharing agreement, which promises that a benefit of the sales of the tea will go to the Indigenous Khoi and San people of the region and what it means to the people of Wuperthal.

We spoke to Job Morris, from the San Youth Network, who tell us about the impacts of urbanization on San communities in Botswana that have resulted because of migration.

The land question can be viewed as the single most pressing issue on the socio-political agenda in South Africa. Khoi and San communities are struggling to secure their right to land and access to the land’s natural resources. In this interview, Professor Geoff Blundell, curator of The Origins Centre and researcher at the Rock Art Research Institute at the University of KwaZulu Natal, highlights the challenges the Khoi and San communities face as a result of flawed land restitution and land redistribution policies.
