General Rules
- Productions should be 100% focused on topics relating to Indigenous Peoples
- When submitting your productions, make sure to include the information of the producer (name, Indigenous nation, language of production, country).
- Each production must have a title.
Duration
- The length of the production is dependent on the interview and the topic. It needs to be engaging and keep the listener’s attention at all times.
- Programs about specific topics 10-20 minutes
- Spots 30 seconds to 1 minute
- Local news bulletins 5 minutes (for special cases when there is a long program, 20 minutes max.)
- Other formats 10-15 minutes
Quality
The sound of the interviewer and the background music should preferably be of a high standard. The use of professional recording devices is encouraged, and
broadcast quality is required. When conducting skype or telephone interviews it ispossible that sound quality might be compromised – Please state in your production that the recording/interview was done via skype/telephone/WhatsApp voice note.We will accept your productions made with the tools you have available. However, if there are severe sound quality challenges, we cannot distribute your program.
Licensing
If you are going to use music tracks, please be sure you have the written permission of the artist or that the music is licensed for use under a Creative Commons license.We must give credit and recognition to the artists at the moment we use their productions. It is recommended that music produced by Indigenous artists is used as background tracks.
Explicit written permission (screenshot, WhatsApp note) must be obtained from these Indigenous artists, and this must be sent along with the final product. Make sure to include the name of the artist or the group, and the name of the track. We can only distribute programs once music credits are acknowledged and have authorization.Please review the following PowerPoint on Music Licensing and Creative Commons, which includes where to access legally licensed music.If you are recording environment sound of an event or including an artist track, please be sure you have permission to use it.
Software
Audacity is a free audio editing tool that can be downloaded here https://www.audacityteam.org/download/ This is the recommended audio editing tool.
Hinderburg is an audio editing tool that needs a license. However, the owner of this program has offered to provide the use of their license for free for a year. If you like it you can continue using it for a small fee. Learn more about Hinderburg at: https://hindenburg.com/
Format
Make sure that the productions are sent in mp3 format.
Once you are sure that you have complied with all of the above, send yourproductions to consent@culturalsurvival.org
Your productions will be reviewed before distribution, to make sure that it complies with the requirements described above.
