La Organización Mundial de la Salud ha señalado que el coronavirus ha causado enfermedades que van desde el resfriado común hasta enfermedades más graves, en muchos casos ha causado hasta la muerte.

El sitio web de rtve señala que actualmente existen más de 3,2 millones de casos y más de 233,000 muertos en todo el mundo.

La pandemia por Covid-19 se ha reducido drásticamente. Sin embargo, a nivel mundial nos seguimos enfrentando a distintas problemáticas derivadas de esta contingencia sanitaria. Actualmente, la generación de “nueva basura”, como cubrebocas, caretas y botellas de gel antibacterial está causando mucho daño al medio ambiente. De acuerdo con diferentes organizaciones, esta situación nos está llevando a un retroceso en cuanto a la acumulación de plásticos, producto de una cultura de usar y tirar, sumada a una tasa de reciclaje poco significativa o efectiva.

La Organización Mundial de la Salud ha señalado que el Coronavirus ha afectado a más de 170 países. Este virus causa enfermedades que van desde el resfriado común hasta enfermedades más graves.

En respuesta a esta emergencia mundial, los pueblos Indígenas se han organizado y creado material radiofónico en sus propios idiomas ejerciendo así el derecho a estar informados. Tal es el caso de la Organización Indígena de Colombia ONIC quien ha trabajado una serie especial en idioma Misak sobre prevención y cuidado ante esta crisis sanitaria por coronavirus.

Hoy día ya habrán escuchado o visto en redes sociales o quizás por medio noticiosos que se atreven, al igual que nosotros, a romper con el cerco mediático; y dar voces a las y los activistas Indígenas que junto a otros cientos de activistas en todo el país están liderando el movimiento social para elevar las demandas y necesidades del pueblo colombiano ante no sólo el Gobierno si no a nivel Internacional, y así conseguir una respuesta duradera. En este programa entrevistamos a líderes y comunicadores Indígenas, conoce qué está pasando en Colombia al escuchar este programa especial

This is a public service announcement about the coronavirus or Covid-19 disease outbreak.
While countries all over the world are on lockdown, and panic is the order of the day, this is a time when Indigenous Peoples around the world are encouraged to stay calm, and be strong, in the face of severe adversity.
What is most important to note, is that our elderly are the most vulnerable. We need to take extra precaution to save the lives of the ones who are dear to us, and the ones who have shown us the way to go, who have guided our feet on the path that we all walk.

States should work with indigenous communities to ensure that national laws reflect the rights of Indigenous Peoples as laid out in the UN Declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The rights of Indigenous Peoples must be enacted fully and mechanisms which monitor and review the implementation of these rights are needed to ensure that States are complying with international law.

The right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent means that Indigenous Peoples are able to use their lands and resources however they choose, and that they are included in a consultation process if any development projects are proposed on their land.

Permanent Observer status for Indigenous Peoples would mean that Indigenous Peoples could have direct participation through their own governments and councils.

Indigenous Peoples have the right to establish their own education and knowledge systems in order to accurately teach future generations about their histories, values, beliefs and languages.

States should work with indigenous communities to implement climate change initiatives which protect the lands and resources of Indigenous Peoples, through an ecosystem-based approach and enforceable safeguards.
