This report is in the Igbo language. In many instances, students had to drop out of school because of illness, or having to take care of a sick loved one. The report was produced by Ugonna Edeani and script written by Chinenye Anichebe and reported by John Chikwere Oguejiofor.

Según rtve indica que hasta la fecha existen más de 27,3 millones de casos y más de 893.000 muertos en todo el mundo por Covid-19.

Esta pandemia por Covid-19 ha afectado mayormente a los pueblos Indígenas debido al abandono de sus gobiernos, a la poca o nula información que llega a sus comunidades y a la falta de acceso a los sistemas de salud nacional.

La época colonial en Centroamérica está marcada por el sufrimiento de los pueblos Indígenas que a la fecha siguen luchando ante la imposición de modelos imperialistas y extractivistas en sus territorios; modelos que tienen como único fin generar recurso económico sin importar la destrucción de los recursos naturales y despojo de territorios sagrados, bajo el discurso y engaño de ser proyectos de desarrollo.

COVID-19 sigue siendo una situación de gravedad, más ahora con nuevas variaciones del virus que se extiende por todo el mundo. La segunda ola del virus está afectando a muchos países mientras que la primera ola ahora llega a aquellas naciones donde no se había sentido mucho el impacto del virus.

Imagine que la pandemia y sus olas, son como las olas del mar. El número de infecciones por COVID-19 aumenta y luego disminuye. Cada ciclo es una "ola" del virus. Este programa habla del tema y las precauciones necesarias para disminuir el contagio. 

El COVID-19 sigue siendo una situación de gravedad, sobre todo  ahora con nuevas variaciones del virus que se extienden por todo el mundo. En respuesta a esta emergencia y después de mucho tiempo de investigación, pareciera que la solución ha llegado; diferentes vacunas han salido al mercado y están llegando a muchos países. Personas de la tercera edad, médicos, servidores públicos, entre otros sectores de la población, han recibido ya una o dos  dosis.

Después de más de un año, el COVID-19 ha dejado más de 3,382,561 muertes en el mundo según el sistema de monitoreo de la Universidad de Medicina Johns Hopkins. Esta crisis sanitaria evidencia el acceso limitado a los servicios básicos de salud, lo cual sigue siendo un reto de gran escala para las comunidades Indígenas de todos los continentes.
