According to the World Health Organisation, coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe illnesses. Covid -19 is a type of coronavirus that is now affecting over 162 countries out of 195.

While we adhere to the precautionary measures that prevent the spread of the coronavirus, it is important to strengthen the defenses in our body through responsible and healthy nourishment. Having a healthy immune system means that our bodies can fight the virus.
Within the community there are a great variety of foods that grow and are produced that can cover the needs of our families and of those elders who live alone.

Los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible son conocidos también como ODS y fueron impulsados 17 objetivos por Naciones Unidas. En este programa puede escuchar especialmente sobre el objetivo 15 enfocado a la Vida de los Ecosistemas Terrestres, para proteger, restablecer y promover el uso sostenible de los ecosistemas terrestres, gestionar los bosques de forma sostenible, luchar contra la desertificación, detener e invertir la degradación de las tierras y poner freno a la pérdida de la diversidad biológica.

Covid-19 is still a grave reality, now with a new strain of the virus spreading across the world. When the pandemic first began, we did not expect it to last this long, and no one expected that it would spread so widely and have such a disastrous impact. As we move into 2021, it continues to be crucial to maintain social distance, avoid large groups of people, wash or sanitize our hands and wear masks consistently to stop the spread of the virus.

After months of clinical trials by many companies in different countries, several vaccines, which are 94-95% effective, have finally been approved and are now making their way to hospitals, clinics and doctors rooms. Successful trials of the vaccines have taken place with medical professionals and the elderly. Vaccines against COVID-19 will be available to us soon.

Limited access to basic health services remains a big problem for Indigenous communities across all continents. Indigenous populations in many countries have experienced poorer health outcomes compared to non-Indigenous populations. Mainstream health services have not adequately met the health needs of Indigenous Peoples in both rural and urban settings.

Según rtve indica que hasta la fecha existen más de 55,8 millones de casos y más de 1,3 millones de muertos en todo el mundo por Covid-19.

Esta crisis sanitaria afectado mayormente a los pueblos Indígenas. Los comunicadores comunitarios Indígenas han cumplido con un rol fundamental en cuanto a llevar información hasta sus comunidades en respuesta a la poca o nula información sobre prevención y cuidados por covid-19.

El acceso limitado a los servicios básicos de salud sigue siendo un reto de gran escala para las comunidades Indígenas de todos los continentes y la emergencia sanitaria por covid-19 ha dejado más en evidencia esta precaria situación.

Los Pueblos Indígenas no esperan que los gobiernos encuentren soluciones, sino que están tomando el control para garantizar la salud dentro de su comunidad algo que también se hacía en el pasado.

Garantizar la alimentación sana y diversa sigue siendo un tema prioritario en este tiempo de pandemia por covid-19. Los alimentos tradicionales y formas de sustento propios basados en el conocimiento ancestral, los idiomas, las cosmovisiones son prácticas y conocimientos que en el tiempo de pandemia han tenido mayor reconocimiento para la seguridad y soberanía alimentaria de los Pueblos Indígenas.

El Covid-19 sigue siendo una situación de emergencia sanitaria que requiere seguir cuidándose y evitar el contagio. La misma pandemia ha dejado ver otros problemas que afectan directamente a las mujeres; el tema de violencia se ha venido a recrudecer durante el confinamiento poniendo en riesgo la seguridad y hasta la vida de las mujeres, principalmente la vida de las mujeres Indígenas. Este programa fue creado para la prevención de la violencia en los hogares.

The WCIP was a meeting of the UN General Assembly where the concerns of Indigenous Peoples were discussed, along with best practices on how to implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

This series of 24 PSAs is based on the Outcome Document of the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples, which took place in September of 2014 in New York. The PSAs highlight specific passages of the Outcome Document in an effort to inform audiences of exactly what the document contains and encourage action.

The WCIP Outcome Document analyses the existing UN mechanisms for implementing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and details ways in which they can be improved.

This series of 24 PSAs is based on the Outcome Document of the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples, which took place in September of 2014 in New York. The PSAs highlight specific passages of the Outcome Document in an effort to inform audiences of exactly what the document contains and encourage action.

The purpose of the WCIP Outcome Document is to consolidate the progress made thus far on implementing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, modify existing measures, and set out new commitments. It makes recommendations for how we can put the words of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples into action.

A true process of consultation and cooperation means that States should obtain Free, Prior and Informed Consent by going through Indigenous Peoples’ own representative institutions.
