El coronavirus ha causado enfermedades que van desde el resfriado común hasta enfermedades más graves y en muchos casos ha causado hasta la muerte. El sitio web de rtve señala que actualmente existen más de 100,6 millones de casos y más de 2,1 millones de muertos en todo el mundo.

COVID-19 sigue siendo una situación de gravedad, más ahora con nuevas variaciones del virus que se extiende por todo el mundo. La segunda ola del virus está afectando a muchos países principalmente en comunidades Indígenas donde ahora ya no solo los niños y ancianos son vulnerables, las nuevas variaciones de Covid19 están afectando a todos en general.

Ha pasado más de un año y los efectos por covid-19 se siguen sintiendo mucho más debido a la segunda ola y sus variaciones, según el sistema de monitoreo de COVID-19 de la Universidad de Medicina John Hopkins señala que a la fecha se han registrado 3,382,561 muertes en el mundo.

La Coalición SIRGE –integrada por líderes Indígenas y organizaciones aliadas– llama a los gobiernos, a los tomadores de decisiones, a las empresas y corporativos involucrados en la transición hacia una economía verde, a que observen e implementen los derechos consagrados en la Declaración de las Naciones Unidas sobre los Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas, incluido el derecho al consentimiento libre, previo e informado, especialmente en casos relacionados con extracción, producción, consumo, venta y reciclaje de los llamados minerales de transición.

While countries all over the world are on lockdown, and panic is the order of the day, this is a time when Indigenous Peoples around the world are encouraged to stay calm, and be strong, in the face of severe adversity.
What is most important to note, is that our elderly are the most vulnerable. We need to take extra precaution to save the lives of the ones who are dear to us, and the ones who have shown us the way to go, who have guided our feet on the path that we all walk.

Covid-19 is still a grave reality, now with a new strain of the virus spreading across the world. When the pandemic first began, we did not expect it to last this long, and no one expected that it would spread so widely and have such a disastrous impact. As we move into 2021, it continues to be crucial to maintain social distance, avoid large groups of people, wash or sanitize our hands and wear masks consistently to stop the spread of the virus.

Mainstream health services have not adequately met the health needs of Indigenous Peoples in both rural and urban settings.
