Dr. Jessica Hutchings (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Huirapa, Gujarat) is a decolonizing researcher in the areas of Māori food sovereignty, food security, cultural and intellectual property rights, and the restoration of the environment through the restoration of Indigenous rights in Aotearoa (New Zealand.) She is actively involved with Te Waka Kai Ora (the National Māori Organics Authority) as a grower and a lead researcher to develop a tikanga-based Indigenous verification and validation system for food and agriculture called Hua Parakore. UNPFII 2024 - Let Us Focus On Our Own Priorities - Catherine Murupaenga - Ikenn
The Permanent Forum is one of three UN bodies that is mandated to deal specifically with Indigenous Peoples’ issues. The others are the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous Peoples. Cultural Survival attended the UNPFII and spoke to some of the delegates who attended.

The 2024 Indigenous Media Conference, organized by the Indigenous Journalists Association, took place from July 25 to 27 in Oklahoma City, United States. The event brought together Indigenous journalists, media professionals, and experts from around the world to discuss and address the pressing issues faced by Indigenous media practitioners. The conference also provided an opportunity to celebrate their contributions and achievements.

Mariia Savvina (Sakha) is an independent artist, fashion designer, and creator of the fashion brand o5o who is originally from Yakutsk, Sakha Republic. In this conversation, Mariia tells us about her training and journey as an artist and her experiences showing her collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia. She also talks about her practice of melding Sakha traditions with the contemporary and the importance this fusing has on both personal and professional levels.
