En la selva y sierra de Chiapas, México, el fenómeno de la migración se vive en distintos niveles: en un primer nivel podemos hablar de aquellos migrantes Indígenas que salen de su comunidad en busca de trabajo temporal y se emplean en zonas turísticas cercanas, en el ramo de la construcción y en campos agrícolas; en un segundo nivel, y más preocupante, podemos hablar de aquellos migrantes que abandona su comunidad y que salen, incluso, con toda su familia para establecerse en algún centro urbano, creyendo  que ahí se solucionarán sus problemas económicos.
